Join organizers from Be:Seattle and guest speakers from Seattle-King County Aging & Disability Services and the elder community for a hybrid (remote or in-person) Building Tenant Power workshop! We'll discuss how aging impacts you as a renter, share some of the resources available to elders, review what accommodations are and how to request them, and talk about how creating a tenants association in your building can help you to advocate for the needs of your community. There will be a community discussion to discuss what you think your biggest housing and community needs are currently and what you want the next generation of organizers to know about how to be inclusive of elders as we fight together for housing justice! We want to hear from you! While remote attendance via Zoom is encouraged for safety reasons, we understand that it may not be accessible to some. If you haven’t used Zoom before and would like some help getting it set up before the workshop, email Arianna Laureano, Workshop Coordinator: arianna@beseattle.com by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, May 24th. If you would like to come to the workshop in person instead of attending remotely, we will be broadcasting from Hilltop House (1005 Terrace St, Seattle, WA 98104). We meet on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. Each workshop is designed to stand alone; however, they are intended to build skills, knowledge, and renter power over the course of the year. Every monthly workshop will be different.
